Bromley 2-1 Welling United

Bromley came back from a goal down to progress through to the next round of the FA Cup in a dramatic cup tie at Hayes Lane on Saturday that saw a red card and two penalties on a scorching hot day.

After both teams were so evenly matched last week in the league game last week, it was Welling who started the stronger this time around and they went on to dominate the half.

Andy Pugh, Joe Healy and Loick Pires all went close before The Wings took the lead on 15mins when a fantastic Louis Fazackerley cross was headed home by Pires for 0-1.

Bromley suffered a further blow losing Ugo Udoji to injury, but they did eventually create a few chances with Hakeem Araba having a header saved by Daniel Thomas, a penalty shout for a foul on Danny Waldren, Gareth Williams firing wide and sub Orlando Smith also being denied by Thomas.

Welling did finish the stronger though with Healy, Pires and Fazackerley all going close. Bromley came out looking more determined in the second half Joe Dolan header just over before the most controversial incident of the game came on 54mins.

Araba was bundled to the floor in the box by Anthony Acheampong and as Williams blasted the loose ball into the net Referee Holderness signalled a penalty for Bromley. The official ruled the goal out and insisted on the penalty before showing Acheampong a red card, Waldren slotted home the spot kick and the scored were level.

The game opened up with both sides looking to win it and after Jack Parkinson had headed a great opportunity over for The Wings Bromley took the initiative on 77mins when Ben Martin bizarrely kicked Mike Jones in the face as they challenged for a high ball and Referee Holderness once again pointed to the spot.

Waldren stepped up and this time blasted his penalty past Thomas to put The Ravens in front. Bromley then battled out the final quarter of an hour with Nathan Green Jones and returning sub Warren McBean all going close before the final whistle signalled a great win for Mark Goldberg’s men.
